About the Book:
Can Love Transcend Time? Thirty-year old Matthew Herrington is weary of solo nights in strange cities. He is ready for a change. And that is exactly what he gets when he steps into Swing Night at The Green Mill and is instantly immersed in the sights and sounds of another era. Intrigued by the club’s authenticity, Matthew is enchanted when he meets Patty, a mixture of sexy and sweet who steals his heart. Patty Dennison has never met a man like Matthew in all her twenty-one years. A sophisticated man, he stands out from the usual Swing Night crowd. He is self-assured, smart, charming, and handsome as hell, even if he is a lousy dancer. Once he takes her in his arms, Patty is more than willing to give him a few dance lessons along with her heart. Repeated missed dates and unanswered phone calls strain the relationship and frustrate the pair. But unraveling their mystery exposes an impossible scenario, one that will torment their sanity and test their love. How can they make their fairytale last? Can love transcend time?

A waitress came to take it off his hands. “Another?” she queried and he nodded agreement, placing a crumpled dollar on her tray. “Too much,” she told him shaking her head no. Matthew was surprised by her response but the tray was covered with loose change so he removed his bill and left the equivalent in quarters. Everything was so inexpensive but the server still needed to make a decent living.

She gave him a grateful smile and turned to move to her next customer, carefully balancing her tray above the heads of the young people around her. In the process, she nudged Matthew slightly causing him to lose his footing and fall gently against another body. Turning to apologize he found himself staring into the clearest, lightest blue eyes he had ever seen. He couldn’t look away.

“Sorry,” he mumbled when he finally regained his composure.

“That’s okay,” she replied with a quick, bright smile. She was lovely, in a wholesome girl next door way. She had her blond hair pulled into a ponytail that curled like a hair product ad, clear-skinned cheeks that were pink with warmth and perhaps exertion, and a curvy body displayed under a bright red sweater and a flared plaid skirt.

Matthew felt his mouth go dry and his palms get sweaty. She did something to him, this fresh faced woman that he found incredibly sexy. Her red lipstick was a slash of bright color mimicking the red of the sweater. Until this moment, bright red lipstick screamed “tough broad, stay away” to Matthew but on this girl it whispered “come hither.”

“Matthew,” he squeaked out, extending his hand to shake hers. Thinking twice about it, he retracted his arm, running his palm against his pants swiftly, and hopefully surreptitiously, before he extended his hand again.

“Patty,” she responded, placing her soft fingers in his large palm. She shook like a girl. After all the bone-breaking handshakes Matthew had endured across the globe, this limp, fingers-only shake surprised him. She looked athletic, not tough but toned, and not sickly pale like most Chicagoans in winter. The handshake didn’t match the image and normally would have bothered him. Nothing about Patty bothered him. Everything about her bothered him.

Pen Prado has a passion for cooking. Specifically, cooking her father's food in her father's restaurant. It's the heart of their immigrant neighborhood, a place where everyone belongs, and second chances are always on the menu. Except for Pen. Despite the fact that there's something almost magic about her food, her father can't imagine anything worse than her following in his footsteps. And when Pen confesses to keeping a secret from her family, he fires her, ensuring she never will.
Xander Amaro is undocumented but that doesn't stop Ignacio Prado from offering him a job at his restaurant. For Xander, it's a chance to make amends and to sever his toxic relationship with the druglord, El Cantil--a man whose been like a father to him since his own disappeared. Soon after, his mother abandoned him too, leaving behind a void that not even his abuelo can fill. Until he meets Pen.
Both seeking a place where they feel like they truly belong, they end up finding each other, and in the face of tremendous fear and self-doubt, they end up finding themselves.

Pen is supposed to go to college and be the one that makes it, but she wants to cook and follow her father's steps. However, when she decides to be brave and honest and confess her dreams... well things go wrong and she is left with no job and the chance to start over.

And in the other corner, we have Xander, a boy who grew up without his mother or father, who has been hunted by the fear of being deported because is an undocumented. The shadow of his past and his association with 'El Canti' hunts him and sometimes he thinks that he doesn't deserve a second chance.

Reunited thanks to the restaurant, Pen and Xander will help each other to heal and above all to learn that life is property of each one of us, that destiny is something you have to make. Each one of them has demons of their own, Pen is not as happy as she seems (if you know something about depression and mental health, you will agree she is well described) and Xander well, imagine being abandoned by your father and your mother.

I like that the romance between them is not forced or cheesy. Litlle by little they are brought together and naturally they end up in a place where things cannot go wrong.

The book addresses several social issues, immigration, drug cartels, mental health, violence among other minor topics. The author deals with all of these without making it a political book or a boring story. This is the reality of the characters and I'm sure many will feel related to it.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It's well written and it's easy to read. The characters are likable and the story has the perfect amount of romance, adrenaline, fear, and emotions.

In this final installment of the Forbidden Arts series, we finally get to know Cain, the leader of the supernatural team we learn to love through all the books. His mission is to lure his enemy's wife, Olivia. He will try to convince her to help them to kill Godfrey once and for all. However, as he spies on her, he becomes attracted to this woman that is not just his nemesis' wife.

I always wanted to know more about Cain, he was this mysterious character behind the curtains. He is always making choices and finding the new members and it always seemed to me that he was giving orders but never got his hands dirty. Now he is in the center of the action and we understand how and why this man is the perfect leader for this team.

Like all the other books, this one has a strong sexual component. The chemistry between the characters is almost too much. The scenes are perfectly described and it's easy to get lost in the reading.

I like that the book gave a good closure to all the doors left open for the big finale. I enjoyed each book in the series and I totally recommend it.

Review:Tides Of Winter (The Felix Chronicles #3)

TITLE: Tides Of Winter
SERIES: The Felix Chronicles #3
AUTHOR: R.T. Lowe
RELEASE DATE: February 4th 2017
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook

Death is just the beginning.
Felix stood at her graveside, eyes burning with sorrow, voice trembling in the winter cold. “This isn’t a kids’ story. The bad guys aren’t evil for the sake of being evil. The good guys fight for a way of life that benefits the privileged at the expense of everyone else—hell, they tried to kill me. So who’s good and who’s evil? Is one side any better than the other? And what’s more important, individual freedom or the right to live without fear? How can I choose for myself when everyone’s trying to choose for me? I only know one thing for sure: when I decide, people are going to die. Good people? Bad people? How will I know until it’s too late? Maybe there isn’t a right answer, and that’s why I’m afraid—why we all should be afraid.”

R.T. Lowe is the author of The Felix Chronicles: Freshmen (Book 1), Five Days In January (Book 2) and Tides Of Winter (Book 3). R.T. is a graduate of Willamette University and Columbia Law School. Originally from Oregon, he now lives in Newtown, Connecticut with his wife and four sons.

In this third installment, Felix has to make some hard choices. People's lives depended on his actions and there's no easy way out. Lofton and ERA keep messing with the world and fear is the current state of mind.

We are faced again with full pack action scenes, blood, death, danger, and so many emotions. This author has an ability to write dark chapters that still have a human touch in them. The characters have evolved since the first book and there's still a long way for them to go.

In my first review, I mentioned that I loved that the relationship between Felix and Allison was a simple friendship with no romantic tone, and for moments I was afraid the author would change that their bond but it is stronger than ever and they love each other (but as friends).

If you have read the other two books YOU MUST read this one. And if you like dark urban fantasy, great characters and good writing try this series.

Felix and Allison return from winter break with hopes of settling into the comfortable rhythms of college life only to find Portland College hasn’t escaped the wave of senseless violence sweeping across the land, from the malls of Minnesota to a small town in northern Maine. Amidst the chaos, a political movement rises, fueled by the turmoil threatening to tear the country apart. As the public’s discontent reaches a final tipping point, a new hope emerges from an unexpected figure, a man offering the promise of peace and security—the prospect of ‘freedom from fear’. When the line that separates allies from enemies blurs and good and evil becomes a matter of perspective, Felix must make a choice. But as the gears of a 2,000-year-old prophecy grind inexorably to the future, can Felix choose his own path, or is free will as illusory as the salvation promised by a man destined to set the world aflame?

Young adults with supernatural powers, a rich powerful man who wants to rule the world, a dangerous radical group and a prophecy of what's to come, all of this is the recipe for the second book in The Felix Chronicles series.

After reading and getting to know Feliz in book one I needed to know what was next for him? After discovering his powers, he is faced with all these expectations from people around him and has to learn who to trust and which side is good.

This installment has all the qualities I liked in the first one, it's fast, easy to read with a great use of words. The descriptions and characters allow us to picture all the action unfolding. The situation the world is facing is violent and the author does a great job creating a world that is both dark and fascinating. And I want to mention that I knew ERA was behind something bigger.
